Study on the use of Hydroxychloroquine for Covid-19 will be resumed.(sources)
A major study on a drug called hydroxychloroquine has been withdrawn, saying it could increase the risk of death in patients with the corona virus. The reason for withdrawing the research is due to concerns about the data related to the drug.
One of the three authors of the research paper said that a company called Serge Sphere was not allowing independent testing of its data on medicine, so they could not continue their research.
As a result of the research, the World Health Organization (WHO) stopped testing this drug used to treat malaria.
However, many world leaders, including President Donald Trump, have spoken out in support of the drug.
Sapin Desai, chief executive of Surge Sphere and the fourth author of the study, told the Guardian that he was ready to cooperate with an independent inquiry, but that transferring data would violate agreements and privacy with consumers.
The article, published last month in the medical journal Lancet, looked at 96,000 corona virus patients and 671 hospitals worldwide. About 15,000 patients were given hydroxychloroquine or another type of chloroquine. Patients were given either this medicine alone or with antibiotics.
The study found that corona virus patients did not benefit from the drug and had an increased risk of heart attack and death.
The study was led by Mandeep Mehra, a professor at Harvard University, Frank Roshzka of the University Hospital of Zurich and Amit Patel of the University of Ottawa, in a joint statement. Attempts were made to analyze but the Surge Sphere Company refused to cooperate.
"We apologize for any inconvenience or inconvenience this may have caused the editor and readers of the magazine."
Scientists are concerned about the use of this drug to treat the corona virus.
The drug hydroxychloroquine is safe for treating diseases such as malaria and arthritis, but no research has yet suggested that it can be used to treat code 19.
Experiments at the University of Minnesota have also shown that hydroxychloroquine is not effective in treating the corona virus.
The WHO stopped testing the drug last month, but said in a statement on June 3 that the series would be resumed.
The drug is being studied in several countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States and Senegal.
In March, the US Food and Drug Administration approved the use of the drug in a limited number of hospitals in emergencies. But the following month, the agency issued a drug warning after some patients developed heart problems.
How hydroxychloroquine become popular?
Despite concerns about the safety and effectiveness of the drug, President Donald Trump said in May that he was using hydroxychloroquine to prevent code 19. However, he later said he had stopped using the drug.President Trump has repeatedly spoken of the potential benefits of this drug. At a press conference in April, he said, "Take medicine, what harm will it do you?"
The use of hydroxychloroquine and related chloroquine has increased significantly in the United States since President Trump's statement.
In addition, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro claimed in a video that hydroxychloroquine is proving to be widely effective. However, Facebook removed the video in accordance with the rules and regulations for spreading false information.
Demand for hydroxychloroquine and its associated chloroquine has increased globally.
